Sourdough Basics: A Journey of Confidence, Community, and Joy
Teaching the Sourdough Basics class at Culinary by Hobby Hill brings me so much joy. I love knowing that I get to be the person who introduces attendees—just like you—to the timeless art of sourdough baking.
For many, sourdough feels intimidating at first, but my goal is to make it approachable, fun, and rewarding. During our class, we’ll cover every detail, from feeding and maintaining your starter to mixing and shaping your dough. I’ll make sure you leave feeling confident, even if you’ve never baked before.
But here’s the best part: your journey doesn’t end when the class does. I stay connected with you through follow-up emails, offering extra tips and encouragement as you bake at home. I even ask attendees to text me photos of their breads—it’s my favorite way to celebrate your progress and help with any questions along the way.
One of my favorite success stories came from a student who took the class just four months ago. She sent me a photo recently of the sourdough loaves she made that looked like adorable pumpkins! Her bread-making skills have come so far that she’s now getting requests from friends and family to bake for them. It’s stories like Stephanie's that remind me why I love teaching this class so much—seeing you grow, flourish, and share your creations with others is simply the best feeling.
For me, it’s not just about teaching the “how-to.” It’s about watching you light up when your first loaf comes out of the oven, or hearing how your family couldn’t stop eating the bread you made. Sourdough is more than just a skill; it’s a way to nurture yourself and the people you love.
Whether you’re baking to share with your family or just for the simple joy of making something from scratch, sourdough is a craft that keeps on giving.
I’d love to have you in class and be part of your baking journey. Together, we’ll create something truly special—one loaf at a time.
