Artisan Bread is my all-time favorite class to teach — and once you've made this bread yourself, you'll understand why. We're talking a crusty, deeply golden top and a soft, air-holed interior, the kind of loaf that looks like it came from a bakery. Except you made it, in about 2 hours, with 4 ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.

Here's the part that surprises most people: this bread doesn't require kneading. At all. Traditional bread making leans hard on developing gluten by hand — folding, pushing, working the dough for what feels like forever. We skip all of that. Instead, you'll learn a simple mix-and-rest method that lets time do the work gluten development usually needs hands for. You'll mix your dough, shape it, and go straight to baking — no arm workout required, no guessing whether you've kneaded "enough."

We'll talk through why this method works — what's actually happening in the dough during that rest, and why a wetter, looser dough (the kind that feels wrong if you're used to traditional bread) is exactly what gives you those big, irregular air holes and that crackly crust. Once you understand the why, you'll be able to repeat this at home with confidence instead of guesswork.

You'll leave with a loaf you baked yourself, plus a technique that fits into a genuinely busy week — no all-day proofing, no special equipment, no starter to maintain. Just real bread, made simple.

We provide the mixes for you. Please bring a lidded container to mix your bread dough, an apron, and a container to take your fresh baked bread home.

Notes: Please make sure you include your email and cell phone for text messaging. We will confirm your class the day of or day before to provide physical directions and updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the class take?
About 2 hours, start to finish — you'll mix your dough, learn the technique, and bake in that time.

Do I need bread-making experience?
No — this class is built for beginners. The method uses just 4 ingredients and doesn't require kneading, so there's no prior technique to unlearn.

What's included in the price?
All bread mix ingredients are provided. You'll need to bring your own lidded container for mixing, an apron, and a container to carry your baked bread home.

Is this class gluten-free?
This class uses traditional wheat flour. If you're looking for a gluten-free option, our Gluten-Free Sourdough Bread Baking Class covers that separately.

What should I bring?
A lidded container for mixing dough, an apron, and a container to take your fresh baked bread home.

Will I actually leave with baked bread, or just dough?
You'll leave with baked bread from the class itself, made start to finish during your session.

Artisan Bread Class

I took my German friends visiting to the artisan bread class. We had a blast. Sharon was very well prepared and offered a number of alternatives. Will take another class in the future.

Thank you Ute for the review. So glad you enjoyed the class. We love all classes where you have something edible by the end. Bread happens to be in my top 5 especially with a butter or Jam. I loved hosting your friends from Germany. I spoke with another customer with 'German Roots' and we are going to bake here with some of those wonderful tasting foods you had access to. I will keep you updated. Thank you~Sharon

Great for grandma and granddaughter memory making!

Thanks so much Sharon for allowing me to bring my preteen granddaughter to the Artisan bread class. We had so much fun. Your clear and repetitive instructions made the process so easy for us. Your energy and added ideas and suggestions were a bonus. She learned so much and baked her own with pride and self confidence. She asked if we could take another class on her next visit.

Thank you Mary Etta for this review. It was so great to have Mary Chandler in the class with you and we are so happy to hear she is not afraid of the Dutch Oven concept for baking. Bring her back and lets make some cheese, macarons or cookies. ~Sharon

Wonderful experience

I gave the bread making class to my daughter and teen granddaughter as a gift. In the middle of the class (!) I received this text: "Never give us any other gift ever again. Only this. This is maybe one of the best things we've done all year."

Thank you for such a wonderful experience for them!

Wonderful!

The class was lots of fun, with easy instructions. Not only did we get to bake samples in class that we then took home, but we also left with dough that we made, and another packet to make later, as well as the recipes.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and my family has also appreciated all of the fresh bread I’ve made since then!

I highly recommend this class!

Thank you Kelley - So nice to meet you. That bread looks awesome. From plain to cheesy to sweet we have you covered!. Keep those photos coming! ~sharon

Fun afternoon!

Reading the original info I had no idea we would come home with so much bread. I have made 2 loaves (which I gave as gifts). I still have 2 loaves in the freezer and the package of crusty bread still to make. Plan to use some as Christmas gifts. Sharon made it fun and was so encouraging to all the “students”.
Would definitely recommend.

Thank you Marilyn for recommendation! we are so happy you enjoyed the class and you had LOTS of Bread. I don't think thats a bad thing since you can freeze some or share some! Keep me updated on your journey. ~sharon

This class was amazing and informative. We learned so much in a very comfortable environment. Sharon is a patient and accommodating instructor who makes you feel like you are cooking at home with family. I definitely recommend this entertaining and instructive experience. When you leave, you not only take home what you made, but you have everything necessary to repeat what you learned at your own home. Take this and gain a skill for life!
