I have always been intimidated about trying to make my own gluten free bread. There were so many flours and I worried that I would just end with a bland hockey puck. Then I found Culinary by Hobby Hill. I LOVE the way Sharon has figured out how to cover all facets of the gf sourdough making process in a single class - starting with trying the final product to get you excited about how delicious you own bread will be! I loved getting to practice each stage of the process even though it would normally happen over nearly a 24 hour period! I went away confident in next steps and made another loaf from start to finish a couple days later. Sharon has such a passion for what she does. It is infectious and I can't thank her enough for making herself available after the class for questions and encouragement as we sent pix of our first loaves! After twelve years of being gluten free I finally have fresh out of the oven, delicious bread. Thank you so much! I will definitely be back for your other gf classes!!
If you’ve ever wanted to make bakery-quality sourdough at home, this is the class to take. The instructor is incredibly knowledgeable and has a wonderful sense of humor that makes learning fun and engaging. Every session is completely hands-on — you’re not just watching someone else bake, you’re mixing, kneading, and shaping your own dough under expert guidance.
What truly sets this class apart is the teacher’s genuine dedication to her students’ success. She’s available even after class — by text, phone, or email — to help troubleshoot any baking challenges or answer questions. That level of support is rare and so appreciated.
After taking this class, you’ll be baking beautiful, crusty, artisanal loaves fit for the most discerning palates. It’s an inspiring, confidence-building experience from start to finish — both educational and incredibly satisfying.
Highly recommend to anyone ready to fall in love with the art of sourdough!
Really enjoyed this class and learned a lot from this hands-on experience!
Thank you for leaving such a positive review of our Sourdough Basics class! We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed the hands-on experience and learned a lot. We're thrilled to have had you in class and look forward to seeing you again soon. Keep baking that delicious sourdough!
The class was not what I had expected. The instructor was fun and energetic but perhaps too ambitious to try to make two different things (sushi and mochi) in shifts with two groups. We were basically given a recipe and told to begin with little to no demonstration. Before long it felt chaotic as everyone was a but lost. The instructor bounced back and forth between the two groups without really being able to devote any time to show us what to do. The groups switched stations with no cleanup or reset so round two was a total literal mess. The ingredients were also too few for the number of people. I think it is a nice concept. More demo, explanation and materials and fewer students would help make a better learning environment.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations. While we’re glad you enjoyed the energy of the instructor, it’s clear that aspects of the class — including the format, transitions, and support — fell short.
We’ve taken your comments seriously and are actively working on adjustments to improve future classes, including smaller group sizes, clearer demonstrations, better station transitions, and ensuring all guests have the materials they need.
We always aim to create a hands-on, educational, and enjoyable experience, and we regret that this one missed the mark for you.
